Pursuing a Degree through Burris Logistics’ Partnership with University of Arizona Global Campus

Hello fellow Burris Logistics, Trinity Logistics, Honor Foods, and R.W. Zant Team Members! I’m Brittany Siegel, Director of Marketing at Trinity. I wanted to share my story of how I used the Burris Logistics Free Degree Program to get my master’s degree in organizational management.

I have always been a learner. Every personality or working style assessment I have ever taken shows that I enjoy being in the pursuit of further knowledge.

This constant pursuit of knowledge manifested as an interest in pursuing higher-level education. I finished my bachelor’s degree in communications in 2011 and by 2021, it felt like a good time to jump back in. Around the time that this thought was sitting in the back of my head, I heard about an information session on the University of Arizona Global Campus through Trinity’s Education Team.

I signed up to chat with an Advisor and learned that not only would I be able to start a master’s degree in my field of interest, but that I could start the very next month without ever paying a penny out of my own pocket. Burris’ partnership with UAGC covers any job-related associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree program for qualifying team members.

As excited as I was about the opportunity, I still took a few days to think about it before taking the plunge. The UAGC master’s program is a mostly non-stop approach to education with 6-week long courses consisting of lectures, classroom discussion, papers, and presentations. After gaining the support from my network that I could take the time to commit, I signed up and was taking my very first course the next month.

The program is flexible enough that you can take breaks if needed or decide to continue through the accelerated program. By following UAGC’s standard schedule, I was able to get my diploma in just under a year and a half.

If you have been throwing around the idea of pursuing a degree, or wondering if you would have the time to commit, I am here to encourage you that it is very possible! Outside of working full time for Trinity, I also have two young children at home and teach fitness classes as a hobby. I just had to practice time management, breaking my assignments down so I could do a little bit of work each day to hit all my deadlines and not become overwhelmed with the coursework.

Was it a challenge? Certainly. Was it worth it? Absolutely!

With this degree, I have a better understanding and knowledge of what it takes to manage a high-performing team. According to UAGC’s website, a Master of Arts in Organizational Management “empowers you to become an effective leader with global vision and awareness and gives you the insight to enact effective organizational management.” I have enjoyed implementing the knowledge I have learned from this degree into my day-to-day work for the organization.
