Elkton’s Andy Stone Is Retiring

Mike McGraw, VP of Purchasing, shared this thoughtful announcement about Andy Stone impending retirement.

Team Members,

It is with great pleasure to announce that Andy Stone will begin a well-deserved retirement effective August 2, 2021. Andy will begin transitioning into his retirement by relaxing by his pool at his home with his wife Mel (MaryEllen) in Delaware with his many neighborhood friends and family. As part of Andy’s exceptionally strong work ethic and care for the business, Andy will return on September 7th on a part time basis through the end of the year to assist with the opening of the fourth Burris/BJ’s distribution center in Independence, KY.

Andy has been with Burris for over 21 years, coming to the Burris team in 1999 as the meat buyer for BJ’s. He has most recently served as Director of Purchasing overseeing the BJ’s purchasing team.

When BJ’s awarded Burris the fresh meat, pork and poultry business from DB Brown in New Jersey in 1999, it was a challenging time as Burris had 30 days’ notice to begin the perishable distribution in November. Andy’s extensive knowledge and experience with BJ’s were instrumental in helping Burris successfully take on the added volume and many extra hours of work.

Andy has a bigger heart than he would ever let you know through donating food products and contributing to charities and fundraisers and helping people in need. We will miss Andy’s larger than life presence, his shiny head and trademark mustache!

Thank you for all you have done and contributed to make the BJ’s business a success leading the team through many challenges.  Your dedication and positive impact on the business will not be forgotten and always appreciated.

Thank you and enjoy your time off and future full retirement!

Thank you, Andy, for all of your commitment to the Burris Elkton Team!
