“A Mountain of a Man with the Soul of an Angel”

Early 80’s – to his passing:  Jack Burris – United Way

Jack Burris was a lifetime friend of United Way of Delaware.  His diligent support changed the lives of countless Delawareans, and he leaves a legacy of dedication and service.  Mr. Burris actively participated in Sussex and Kent County United Way campaigns for more than 20 years.  In his most visible roles, Mr. Burris served on United Way of Delaware’s Board of Directors and as the Kent/Sussex Group Co-Chair.  He also worked to impact the community by serving on various United Way of Delaware sub-committees and as a champion United Way recruiter.  He reached out to Delawareans across all walks of life, inspiring them to get involved in the community.

Mr. Burris played a key role in the merger of Sussex County United Way with United Way of Delaware to create one of only two statewide United Ways in the nation.  The merger facilitated increased support for programs and services for Sussex County residents.  He also made it his personal goal to involve more Sussex and Kent County friends in United Way of Delaware, and during his leadership, both the Sussex and Kent County campaigns saw significant growth.
