Food Safety Focus | PPE

Hello All!

I hope this message finds all of you and your families safe and well.

This food safety focus will be about our freezer, cooler and dock PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) like freezer suits, dock jackets, gloves, etc.

Why are we talking about PPE with food safety?  Good question, but consider this – What has your freezer suit and gloves come in contact with and when was the last time they were washed?

When holding and stacking cases, gloves constantly come in contact with the products we store and the handles of the lifts we use every day.  This is very important to consider when stacking allergens, as well.  We should also make sure we don’t put the gloves we use for stacking cases of products on the breakroom tables or other areas where people eat their food and could come in contact with the same surface your gloves were sitting on moments before.  Gloves should be stored in a safe place (like your lockers), while on lunches and breaks.

Freezer suits that come in contact with products we carry in our hands, need to be cleaned regularly and should never be worn in the restroom, or while eating.  Where is that freezer suit sitting while we are in the restroom?  It should be hung up outside of the restroom or in your lockers, and not taken in the restroom with you, please.

Thanks for all you do every Day,

Justin

Food Safety Manager
