Food Safety Focus | Ceilings

Hello All!

I hope this message finds all of you and your families safe and well.

This food safety focus will focus on ceilings.

I know we don’t store products on the ceilings, so what do ceilings have to do with food safety?  Let’s find out.

Above all of our heads in all of our warehouses is a ceiling with a lot going on.  There are pipes full of refrigerant, large air units and everything needed to keep all the products in storage at just the right temperature.  We have to be careful that there are no leaks from refrigerant lines or the air units on the ceiling that could affect any products stored underneath.  The first thing many inspectors will do is find all of your ceiling air units in your storage areas and follow underneath them to make sure nothing has dripped down to any products stored underneath.  Never allow products to sit underneath anything dripping from anything on the ceiling, please.  Any products affected in such away must be damaged out and removed from inventory immediately.

Roof ice from leaks in the roof is another ceiling issue to watch for.  Never allow roof ice to sit over top of products in storage.  Roof rainwater runoff can contain some nasty chemicals from the roof, so it can never be allowed to affect the products in our care.  Make sure products stay out from under any areas that have any ice buildup on the ceiling from roof leaks.  Report them immediately to management so they can make sure repairs are completed.  I don’t want to eat anything with roof ice on it and I’m sure you and your families don’t wat to either!

Thanks, for all that you do every Day!
