Food Safety Focus | Standing Water

Food Safety Focus

Hello All!

I hope this message finds all of you and your families safe and well.

This food safety focus will focus on standing water.

Water that is sitting or pooling in one spot for as little as six days can completely change the composition and increase the cell count of any bacteria present in the water. Stagnant water is a breeding ground for bacteria and other parasites and the longer it sits, the more dangerous it becomes.

Many insects, like mosquitoes, breed in standing water and can carry blood borne diseases like malaria. Vermin like possums and rats are also drawn to areas with standing water, so it is very important to make sure we are removing any sources that can gather water, like tires, buckets, boxes, etc. from around the facility as soon as possible.

Standing water can also cause mold to grow, causing the potential for serious health problems to occur.

People may walk or drive through wet areas at times so anything in the water can be tracked through the warehouse on the shoes of team members and the tires of forklifts. Water on the warehouse floor must be squeegeed and removed as soon as possible so all areas stay safe, dry and free from harmful bacteria and parasites.

Thanks, for all that you do every Day!
