Food Safety Focus

Hello All Team Members!

I hope this message finds all of you safe and happy today.

Today I wanted to change gears a little and talk about some MHE (Material Handling Equipment) safety. Sounds like fun? I knew you would agree!

We use MHE to move freight through our warehouses every day. Keeping MHE safety in mind will help team members and products stay safer while working and travelling in our part of the supply chain.

Speaking of travelling, our topic today is always look in the direction of travel. This is big and may not happen as often as we like to admit, especially when doing two or more things at once. This is why it’s important to only do one function at a time when driving a forklift. We should not be moving in a direction while picking up or putting something down with our forklifts. Why? Because our eyes like to follow what we are thinking about. How many times have you seen someone moving in a direction while they are still looking at the pallet they just dropped off or picked up? That is looking in the opposite direction from where they are moving, even if only briefly. Briefly is all the time it takes for something to go wrong.

When working in storage locations, moving product forward on the pick-line so you can reach it better or any activity in the racking, remember that the racking is there behind you and around you. So, make sure you are always looking in the direction of travel when coming out of storage locations or pick slots as well.

I hope you enjoyed this brief but important message, my friends and as always, thank you for all you do to provide safe food for our families each and every Day!
