Food Safety Focus | Space Food

Hello All Team Members!

I hope this message finds all of you and your families safe and well,

This week I wanted to talk to you about something very interesting that is out of this world – space food!

It’s amazing to think that people have been living in space for over twenty years! This accomplishment wouldn’t be possible without using a lot of ingenuity in making sure all of the astronauts living there stay healthy and whole.

There is a system in place that gathers water from everyone in the space station to be used for drinking water and for bathing.

Scientists say the purified water on the space station is actually cleaner than the water we drink here on Earth. Using a miniature greenhouse, they have been successful in growing their own food in space, which is key in being able to live there. They have grown a variety of plants like lettuce, sunflowers, peas and more using what we release from our bodies as a natural fertilizer.

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into how life is lived by another in a place that most people
have never gone before…

Thanks to all of you for all you do to provide safe food for our families here on Earth each and every Day! Everything you do makes our Burris/Honor/Trinity family great, and is appreciated by us all.
