Food Safety Focus

Hello All Team Members!

I hope this message finds all of you and your families safe and well. Summertime is in full swing and during these hot summer days, it’s very important to please keep yourself and your families hydrated. A fun and tasty way to do that is with an ice-cold
popsicle in hand. There isn’t much that’s more nostalgic than your favorite flavored Popsicle on a warm day, right? But where did they come from? I’m glad you asked!

The story goes that the Popsicle, as we have it today, was actually invented by an 11-year-old kid named Frank Epperson back in 1905! As the story goes, little Frank left his cup of soda on the porch overnight in the cold with a stirring stick in it. In the morning when he awoke, the cup of soda was frozen to the stick. He loved the way it tasted and called it the “Epsicle”. He then sold them to all the kids in the neighborhood. Frank would go on later to sell his ice-cold treats to people on Neptune Beach in California. He would change the name to “Popsicle” after his own kids began to call them that and was granted a patent for his invention in 1923. Today, over 2 billion Popsicles are sold annually with the most popular choice being cherry flavored.

I hope you had fun learning a little about the Popsicle today! Take some time to enjoy one or two, when the temperature rises, for a tasty way to stay hydrated and thank you for all you do to provide safe food for our families each and every Day!
