Food Safety Focus | Baby Food & Avoiding Toxic Metals

Food Safety Focus

Hello All!

I hope this message finds all of you and your families safe and well.

This week we are going to talk about something very important to us all: the food our babies and toddlers eat.

All of us want to feed our children the best food possible.  This is one of the reasons we are so careful with the food we handle every day.  This is the food our families will enjoy and we must do all we can to ensure its safety.

Some time ago it was found that high levels of toxic metals were found in some baby foods.  I’ve included in this week’s message a link for the American Academy of Pediatrics that we can use for helpful ideas in making sure we keep these toxic metals away from our children.  Some good ideas include reading labels carefully and offering a variety of grains instead of rice.

I’ve also included an article from this month and one I saved from this time a year ago, to show the progress we’ve made so far in keeping toxic metals out of baby food on the regulatory side.  Needless to say, we are still working on a good solution.  These were posted in Food Safety News this year and last.

Thank you for all that you do each and every day to ensure safe food for our families!
