Food Safety Focus | Food Safety During the Storm

Food Safety Focus

Hello All!

I hope this message finds all of you and your families safe and well.

We all have to deal with storms in life sometimes, whether from snow or rain and the need to keep food safe throughout them never changes.  This week I want to share a link from the FDA as a resource of information if needed during one of those storms.

Some good points include putting thermometers in the fridge and freezer to help keep track of temperatures and freezing water to use in keeping food cold during power loss.  Frozen gel packs and coolers can also help to maintain proper food temperatures until power can be restored.  Keep the refrigerator doors closed as much as possible to keep in all that cold air.  Freezing perishables ahead of time can also help keep them fresh longer and save you from having to throw anything out.  Throw out any perishable foods that get above 40 degrees F for more than 2 hours.

Keep all dry goods off the ground in your pantry in case of flooding and never eat food that has been contaminated by floodwater.

I sincerely hope you and your families never need any of this information.

Stay safe and thank you for all that each of you do every Day to ensure safe food for our families!
