Food Safety Focus

Hello All!

I hope this message finds all of you and your families safe and well. In this food safety focus, we will talk about something we cannot go without; hand washing.

The other night I was out at a restaurant to eat with my family and I went to the restroom to wash my hands before eating. While I am washing up, a person walks out of one of the stalls and walks straight out of the restroom, without washing their hands… There are several sinks in here mind you; it is a big restaurant. Immediately I began to think about all the door handles, menus, card machines, etc. this person will come in contact with and all the people who will unknowingly be exposed to this person’s lack of hygiene… Nevertheless, the truth is the actions of this person are not uncommon, according to studies. Hand washing has been on a steady decline over the past couple years. There should be hand-washing signs in all the restrooms and in the breakrooms at each facility.

Make sure to use soap and wash for 20 seconds at least – roughly one round of singing Happy Birthday. Remember to air dry or towel dry your hands completely because wet hands are also a good vector for transferring germs. Thanks for all you do every Day to provide safe food for our families!
