Food Safety Focus | MHE

Hello All!

I hope this message finds all of you and your families safe and well.

This food safety focus will focus on MHE (Material Handling Equipment).

Most, if not all of the products we care for are handled by us using MHE at some point in the process, as products journey through our sites to the hands of consumers.  It’s important to make sure we are completing pre-shift inspections, to make sure the lifts are in good repair, before being used around any products.  We don’t want any fluids, grease or loose parts getting into our food!  This is very important to remember.

In addition, the mast of the lift that the forks ride up and down on should never come in contact with products seated in the racking.  The mast of your lift has grease on it, and this grease may rub off onto the boxes of products located below the location you may be working in.  The mast of the lift can also cause what we used to call “boom damage”.  That’s when the mast of the lift that the forks ride up and down on is too close to products in the racking and the lifting and lowering of the forks causes damage.  The mast can actually pinch the cases if it’s up against them in the racking, so please be careful.

Remember to also lower your forks all the way down to a safe height before travelling.  Never travel with product or empty forks up in the air.  This is for your safety, the safety of everyone around you and the safety of the products we handle.

Thanks for all you do every Day!
