Food Safety Focus | MHE Impact

I hope this message finds all of you and your families safe and well.

I’ll be taking my vacation this week so I’m taking the opportunity to share something that is off topic from food safety, however is still very close to my heart – MHE (Material Handling Equipment) safety!  Specifically, we will focus on something very simple that will have a huge impact (or lessen the impact, depending on how you look at it) on the safety of all team members who drive MHE equipment.  MHE impact!  Note – this is for MHE impact and not for MHE tip-over.

No one wants to have a bad impact, right?  That’s especially true when it comes to driving forklifts.  If an impact does happen, brace for the impact and keep all parts of the body within the confines of the lift at all times.  Sounds simple enough, right?  This is so the forklift will take the force of the impact and the team member will remain safe within the confines of the forklift.

What about a rider pallet jack, though?  The deck that team members stand on for the rider pallet jack isn’t the widest but it is solid, strong and designed to take an impact.  It’s just wide enough for one foot so you have to stand with your feet apart on the deck, facing the steering handle to stay safely inside.  It is very important that team members do not place both feet together on the deck of the rider pallet jack.  When both feet are together, that little pinkie toe inside the shoe usually ends up sticking out over the edge of the deck you stand on and if there is an impact, that little pinkie toe can get seriously injured.  All team members must stand on the decks of all rider pallet jack properly and as intended by the manufacturer to stay safe.

So, if an impact does happen, let the forklift take it and stay safely out of the way at all times, please.

Be safe always and thank you for what you do every Day!
