Food Safety Focus | FDA Reported Listeria Outbreak

Food Safety Focus

Hello All!

I hope this message finds all of you and your families safe and well.

Last week we discussed Listeria so this week I wanted to share an example of what a real world recall involving Listeria looks like and the effect it can have on the public.

This recall for Listeria was allegedly traced back to Big Olaf Ice cream products, based in Florida; however, the company claims no fault as of now and the FDA says they still sell the product in some locations.  In no way do we assume any guilt on the part of anyone; however, you can see from reading the story that those involved are going through a very difficult situation.

The report says that as of June 30, the CDC reported 23 illnesses in 10 states with one person having died. Five pregnant women were reported ill, with one having miscarried.  Our thoughts go out to all those who have reported sickness and loss during this Listeria outbreak that has affected so many.

The sick people live in Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.

As always, thank you for all that you do each and every Day to ensure safe food for our families.
