Food Safety Focus | Pallet Identification

Food Safety Focus

Hello All!

I hope this message finds all of you and your families safe and well.

This food safety focus will focus on Pallet Identification.

Why do products need identification?  A product’s identification is similar to a personal ID we all carry with us as it acts as something to describe who or what we are. Every product that comes into our warehouses is assigned a set of numbers to act as an ID of sorts to help identify what they are, where they come from and where they belong while in our care, called a lot number.  Many of our warehouses also use a Pallet ID or (PID) to further identify the products we store.  These identifying numbers are the only way we can identify the products in our care and they can tell us everything we need to know about the products they are attached to through our Warehouse Management System.  All products in storage must have these identifying numbers attached to them in a place that is clearly visible.

Have you ever walked by that one or two cases that have been sitting in the rack for too long and when you tried to look up where they go… there isn’t anything on the cases to tell you where they came from or where they should be?  Some may say you can add them back to inventory or give them away but what if that case or cases were part of a recall and were not found?  There is no reason we should have to be a detective when it comes to the products we store.

This could affect our own families if that product gets all the way down to our dining room table.  Please make sure all products that are in storage have the correct pallet identification. This way, we can properly identify products that should not be shipped and to help ensure safe food products get to our families in the future.

Thanks, for all that you do every Day!
